So...I love BG3. I've played it through five times thus far, and just created a new character last night. To make it known, I am 50-years-old and I started playing Dungeons & Dragons at around twelve, with the old-school paper and dice. God, I loved playing. Escaping into a world of magic, dragons, ogres, mimics, magic wands, etc., was addictive and glorious. Back then we used metallic crayons to fill in the dice's numbers. THAT'S the old-school way, baby! Indeed, that should tell you I definitely have a foundation and history of D&D ingrained in me. I even still have the original Monster Manual by Gary Gygax trucked away in the closet. So, when BG3 came out (yes, I played the Baldur's Gate trilogy, as well as Icewind Dale I and II), I was giddy like a child.
